The socialist Cuban Revolution completely transformed the island, building hospitals all over the country and eradicating illiteracy in the course of a year.

Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation for a film showing of Maestra, a short film about Cuba's literacy campaign of 1961. More than 100,000 children became volunteer teachers.

Meanwhile in the United States, just this year a Michigan judge ruled that literacy is not a right for students.
