DC: Black August Community Forum and Film Screening - Black Power Mixtape

August 12, 2016 at 7:00pm - 10pm

Black August commemorates the life of imprisoned Black Panther Party member George Jackson, who was assassinated in San Quentin prison in 1971.

Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 is a 2011 documentary film, directed by Göran Olsson, that examines the evolution of the Black Power Movement in U.S. society from 1967 to 1975. It features 16mm footage that had been lying undiscovered for 30 years, along with commentaries and interviews from leading contemporary African-American artists, activists, musicians and scholars, as well as music.

Join us for the film screening followed by a discussion on Black August and the Movement for Black Lives today.
