Liberation Flicks presents: Food Chains

To celebrate International Working Women's Day, we will be screening Food Chains, a documentary about the rampant exploitation of farm laborers, particularly immigrant laborers. The film demystifies the food industry, which most people only experience in grocery stores and restaurants, and shows the real conditions in which our food is harvested. Wage theft, modern day slavery, human trafficking and sexual misconduct are the norm for thousands of farm laborers across the country. 

In spite of these horrendous conditions, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers has been organizing against wage theft, terrible work conditions, human trafficking and gendered violence since 1993. We are pleased to announce that after the film, we will be joined by Julia de la Cruz, a worker leader and organizer with the CIW. The CIW has been instrumental in building off of the momentum of the #metoo movement and Time's Up to highlight the struggles of working class women as they confront sexism and abuse.

Para celebrar el Día Internacional de la Mujer Trabajadora, los invitamos a una proyección especial del documental Food Chains, que trata la explotación desenfrenada de los trabajadores agrícolas, especialmente de las trabajadoras inmigrantes. La película desmitifica la industria alimentaria, que la mayoría de las personas solo experimentan en las tiendas de comestibles y restaurantes, y muestra las condiciones reales en las que se cosechan nuestros alimentos. El robo de salarios, la esclavitud moderna, el tráfico humano y la mala conducta sexual son la norma para miles de trabajadoras y trabajadores agrícolas en todo el país.

A pesar de estas horrendas condiciones, la Coalición de Trabajadores de Immokalee se ha estado organizando contra el robo de salarios, condiciones de trabajo terribles, tráfico humano y violencia de género desde 1993. Nos complace anunciar que después de la película, nos acompañará Julia de la Cruz , una líder trabajadora y organizadora con la CIW. La CIW ha sido fundamental para aprovechar el impulso del movimiento #metoo y Time's Up para resaltar las luchas de las mujeres de clase trabajadora al enfrentar el sexismo y el abuso.
