Philly: Taking on the Lies about Syria: Confronting U.S. War Propaganda

April 21, 2018 at 3:00pm - 5pm

On April 13th the U.S. government, along with the support of France and Britain, launched an attack that bombed sites in and around the densely populated Syrian capital city of Damascus. These missile strikes were in response to alleged chemical attacks carried out by the Syrian government against civilians. With peace and stability on the horizon after years of intense multi-fronted warfare, what does the Syrian government possibly have to gain from carrying out a chemical attack on its own citizens that is sure to provoke international outrage? What truth is there, if any, to the Pentagon’s claims justifying increasing U.S. military intervention in Syria? Is the U.S. government really concerned with the well-being of the Syrian people, who have suffered so much from civil war instigated by foreign powers?

As part of an ongoing political education program, the Philadelphia Liberation Center is hosting a study group to debunk U.S. war propaganda used to support military intervention and possible all-out warfare & regime change in Syria. We will learn about the origins and development of the war in Syria as well as the history & outcomes of U.S. intervention. No previous reading required, all material will be provided.
