Meet Yari Osorio
Yari Osorio is the vice-presidential candidate of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
Osorio has been a member of the New York City branch of the PSL since 2006.
Born in Cali, Colombia, Osorio immigrated to the United States at age three with his mother and older brother. He is now a U.S. citizen, but grew up undocumented. The harsh anti-immigrant policies in the United States propelled Osorio to become an ardent advocate for social and economic justice, and for equality.
Osorio received a BA degree from John Jay CUNY in Forensic Psychology and later became a New York State certified Emergency Medical Technician.
He is an active anti-war and social justice organizer in New York City, and is a volunteer organizer in the anti-war ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism).
Osorio has helped to lead dozens of anti-war and anti-racist demonstrations in New York City and Washington, D.C. As a student at John Jay CUNY, he co-founded Justice in Action, a social justice club on campus, and helped organize for students’ rights across CUNY campuses. He helped lead the PSL’s campaign to stop the New York Police Department’s racist “stop and frisk” policy, which targets Black and Latino working-class communities.
Osorio has been interviewed by numerous national and international news agencies about the anti-war movement in the United States, the struggle for immigrant rights and on many other topics.
In early October 2011, Osorio was arrested on the Brooklyn Bridge along with 700 other people as part of the Occupy Wall Street demonstration. He is actively participating in the Occupy movement and is organizing daily to help the movement of the 99% grow.
Osorio is also a regular contributor to Liberation, the newspaper of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
