LA - 25th Anniversary: Lessons of the '92 Los Angeles Rebellion

April 07, 2017 at 7:30pm - 9:30pm

25 years ago this April, Los Angeles erupted in rebellion against the racist police responsible for brutally attacking Rodney King were acquitted. Their acquittal came on the heels of decades of abuses, murders, beatings and other atrocities at the hands of Los Angeles police. On April 29, 1992, working and oppressed people in Los Angeles stood up; the acquittal of King's assailants was a bridge too far.

Though the media has dubbed them nothing more than riots--senseless violence grown from misdirected anger--the events of April and May, 1992 are truly revealing glimpses at the deep frustrations, fears and anger felt by most Angelinos. As a result its place in history is alongside the Ferguson and Baltimore Rebellions after Michael Brown and Freddie Gray were murdered by police.

Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation for a discussion of the true history of the Los Angeles rebellion and for an analysis of its impact on today's city and movement.
