LA: Fighting the Fascist Offensive from Pittsburgh to Brazil

November 09, 2018 at 7:30pm - 9:30pm

A spike in organized fascist attacks by groups ranging from Patriot Prayer to the Proud Boys across the US has been coupled with increasing acts of terrorism, including the attempted bombing campaign against liberal politicians and the massacre of Jewish worshippers in Squirrel Hill. Trump, who declared himself a nationalist just days prior, as well as politicians generally, have done nothing to stop it.

Europe’s own fascist movement has continued to grow and coalesce across borders into an international threat by a combination of mass mobilization, electoral victories, and racist, anti-refugee brutality. The US sponsored coup in Ukraine that empowered neo-Nazis continues to bear fruit across Eastern Europe and embolden fascists around the globe.

Most alarmingly, the fascist menace has taken power in Brazil with the recent election of Jair Bolsonaro. In the lead up to the election his supporters employed mob violence that only increased ten fold as soon as he won. Ranging from individual gang attacks to wholesale burning of encampments of the Landless Movement - Bolsonaro’s victory represents a potentially historic setback for the Left across Latin America.

Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation on the International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism for an in-depth analysis and discussion on the continuing advance of the fascist threat and how we can stop it.
