Justice for Akai Gurley - Special Guest Speaker - Aunt T

Join us in a special presentation from Aunt T, Akai Gurley's aunt who has become a leader and a powerful force in the police brutality movement across the country.

Nearly 18 months ago, Akai Gurley, a 28 year old Black man visiting the Pink Houses in East New York, Brooklyn, was murdered by NYPD officer Peter Liang. In February, a jury found Liang guilty of manslaughter, and he will receive his sentencing from a judge in April.

While the verdict is a victory for the movement, the struggle is far from over. As soon as the verdict was announced, racist and divisive forces began to spin lines of anti-Asian sentiments in the Black Lives Matter movement. The reality on the streets is that Black, Latino, Asian, white, and people of all backgrounds have been united demanding justice for Akai. Jail all killer cops! Justice for all victims of police terror!

A Woman's Place is in the Struggle!

Often, movements are reduced to the contributions of single individuals, most likely men. However, struggles for national liberation and freedom are based on the dedication and sacrifice of thousands of people. Women play a central role, and nowhere does this resonate more than in the Palestinian struggle for self-determination.

In honor of Women's History Month, we will honor Palestinian freedom fighter Leila Khaled and discuss the role of Palestinian women in fighting against the racist Israeli regime and demanding the Palestinian right of return. We will also discuss the importance of the upcoming National March on Washington to Support Palestine on Sunday, March 20th.
