Class Struggle Cinema Volume 1 presents...

Join the Pittsburgh PSL for a free to the public screening of The Upright Man, a documentary on African revolutionary Thomas Sankara.

A little about the film:

"Thomas Sankara: The Upright Man (French:Thomas Sankara, l'homme intègre) is a 2006 documentary film about Thomas Sankara, former president of Burkina Faso. Sankara was known as "the African Che", and became famous in Africa due to his innovative ideas, his devastating humour, his spirit and his altruism. With a gun in one hand and Karl Marx's works in the other, Sankara became president at the age of 34 and served from 1983 to 1987. He immediately set out to shake the foundations of the country that he renamed from the French colonial Upper Volta to Burkina Faso, "Land of Upright Men." More than a classic biography, this film sheds light on the impact that this man and his politic made on Burkina Faso and Africa in general. The man Sankara remains alive due to his charisma and legacy."

Sankara's ideals are particularly important to study today as womens rights continue to be attacked by right wing fundamentalists, the environment is continually pillaged by corporations, and bosses and CEO's continue to force the common worker to do more for less.

This film is free to the public and will begin close to 6pm. There will be snacks provided for those who would like to join us for an evening of film, history, and discussion!

*The Pary for Socialism and Liberation is a revolutionary socialist party that struggles for worker's rights, LGBTQ liberation, immigrant rights, and against imperialist wars and bigotry on all fronts. We are a party comprised of leaders and activists, workers and students, of all backgrounds representing all oppressed sectors of our society.
We are united in our belief that capitalism—the system in which all wealth and power is held by a tiny group of billionaires and their state—is the source of the main problems confronting humanity today. It must be replaced by socialism, a system where poor and working people have power and the wealth of society is used in a planned and sustainable way to meet people’s needs.
Our mission is to link the everyday struggles of oppressed and exploited people to the fight for a new world. Join us!
