"We need more than new politicians . . . we need a new system!"

The 2016 election cycle has demonstrated more than ever a growing polarization in our society. This polarization is the result of growing economic crises, racial oppression, evnironmental degradation, LGBTQ bigotry and imperialist war under the capitalist system. The 1% - represented by Wall St and the biggest corporations, hope to hold on to their power and continue their ruthless exploitation of working people and the planet’s resources. We believe that we need more than new politicians - we need a mass movement that will put power into the hands of working people so that we can build a society based on meeting people’s needs rather than the super-profits of the richest people on the planet. Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation in a day of workshops to discuss building a new, socialist society.

Workshops Include:

1. ABC’s of Socialism

2. Fighting racism & building class unity

3. Building a fighting labor movement

4. Sexism, bigotry & socialism

5. U.S. imperialism & the fight for liberation

6. To save our planet we must kill capitalism!

Workshop Descriptions:

1. ABC’s of Socialism

An introduction to the basic concepts of socialism - what it is, why we need it, and the strategy we need to achieve it. This workshop will include discussion on the Marxist concepts of history and social change, the role of the state in class society, the economic critique of capitalism, and much more.

2. Fighting racism & building class unity

A central task of socialist organizers is to build unity across the working class between Black, Latino, Asian, and white workers. Join this workshop for in-depth discussion on how socialists support movements like #BlackLivesMatter and the immigrant rights struggle and how this relates to the growing fight against white supremacists and fascists in the U.S

3. Building a fighting labor movement

For the first time in decades an upsurge of labor struggle is gripping the U.S. as the Fight for 15 and low-wage worker struggles take center stage. Discussion in this workshop will include the role that unions play in class society, how socialists intervene in the labor struggle to advance its aims and militancy, and why the Fight for 15 has the potential to radicalize a new generation of poor and working people.

4. Sexism, bigotry & socialism

For centuries of human history women & LGBTQ people have faced the most obscene oppression under patriarchal class systems. This continues today with rising violence against women, trans murders, attacks on abortion rights, unequal pay, deteriorating access to affordable childcare, and gender discrimination. This workshop will give historical analysis of how patriarchy developed, the role of socialist women’s leadership, and much more.

5. U.S. imperialism & the fight for liberation

The U.S. imperialist war machine continues to wreak havoc across the world - from its proxy war in Syria, to drone strikes, sanctions and sabotage aimed at Venezuela, and support for apartheid Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. Join us for discussion on what imperialism is from a Marxist perspective. We will analyze the current global situation and how to defeat the U.S. war machine.

6. To save our planet we must kill capitalism!

Wall Street, Big Oil, the Pentagon, and Big Agribusiness continue to extract the planet’s resources at alarming rates with increasingly intensive and dangerous methods despite the glaring warnings from scientists that continued exploitation will make the planet uninhabitable. Join us for discussion on how to put the big polluters in jail and stop these industries before its too late.

Lunch will be served and a social event will be held after the day of workshops is finished with drinks and snacks.

Red/Purple line to Wilshirve/Vermont station.
