Pride has always been a protest. Stonewall in 1969 was a riot, and the first Pride was a celebration of resistance!
At Stonewall, the LGBTQ community stood up and fought back against their oppression, a historic event that changed the movement for LGBTQ liberation forever. Since then, major gains like marriage equality have been won thanks to the hard work of working class organizers. Today, our community still faces extreme violence, discrimination and issues in access to healthcare, employment and safe housing. These legal protections still don't exist, and the need for continued struggle remains!
Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation – Las Cruces for a study group on Sunday October 7, from 2-4pm in the Thomas Branigan Library Board Room to learn about the roots of LGBTQ oppression, the issues still facing our community, and the way forward!
